The Trinity Alps Wilderness lies west of Interstate 5; near Lake Shasta, within view of Mount Shasta.  They have a rugged, remote feel with passes and bare granite ridges topping 8,000 feet.  The area has a gold rush history and remnants of man's incessant search for it are frequent.  In the fall the area had a remote feel; trails duff covered, brush tight to the tread, days without people.

Many areas visited have a remote and pristine feel.   

Would be interesting to understand management's trail maintenance  resources and priorities
