John Day River, Oregon.

News of a OPB presentation filmed on a wild section of the John Day River with extensive use of drones prompted me to write Carol Benkosky, District Manager, of the Prineville BLM and asked about the use of mechanization within the wild river corridor. So far, no response.

Summary

Although it took nearly four months and a second letter the response received fully address all questions posed.  However, the BLM response indicated no corrective action was taken concerning OPB's use of drones.

Followup

Wilderness users should continue to encourage wilderness managers to be proactive in teaching the public about the restrictions on the use of drones in wilderness.  OPB has previously used drones in the Mount Jefferson WIlderness.  Wilderness Report will request that river managers clarify restrictions on drone use in wilderness with with OPB producers.
