On a wilderness ski trip I found that the plastic blue diamonds, long used to mark winter ski trails, had been removed. Curious, I asked John Allen, Forest Supervisor, on the Deschutes National Forest why?

Wilderness managers identified plastic trail markers as incompatible with wilderness and had them removed.
