Hiking the Wonderland Trail in Mount Rainier National Park I couldn’t shake the feeling that the Park was more focused on people management than on wilderness management––they just didn’t understand wilderness values and contradictions were rampant everywhere. In response I wrote an open letter to the park’s cadre of backcountry staff about management of National Park Wilderness areas.
