Selway Bitterroot Wilderness, Idaho.
Idaho's Selway Bitterroot Wilderness is renown for it's rugged, remote and often unvisited ridgeline trails and a landscaped bisected by the world class whitewater of the Selway River.
Returning to the trailhead with volunteers after a week-long stint dedicated to opening an old trail we were greeted at the trailhead, located on public land, with signs from a local outfitter informing us that we should be parking a half mile down the road.
There is no room for outfitters with special use permits allowing the commercial use of public lands to attempt to intimidate the public into allowing them exclusive use of public lands. The agency should take immediate steps to squash this attitude and the outfitter involved should be expected to send letters of apology to all involved.
