Hells Canyon of the Snake, Oregon, Idaho.
Hells Canyon is the remote and rugged canyon defining the border between Oregon and Idaho. Though sections are in wilderness and it is classified a wild river jetboats roar up and down the river almost constantly.
Despite a Wild River designation and designated Wilderness on both banks even the most "wild" section of the Snake has become a major recreational playground for the jetboat community. Human powered recreation is limited to only one public and one commercial launch per day.
The agency could be doing a much better job of educating users about ways to minimize impacts on the resource. The public should openly question the allocation of use that limits public float trips to one launch per day.
