Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, Idaho.

The rugged Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness is far enough away from population centers that its' trails are lightly used and its' peaks rarely climbed.  


Wilderness airstrips and private out-holdings present significant challenges for wilderness managers—both well represented in the Selway-Bitterroot.


The questions posed in the Summary section of the report posted below remain to be addressed by the managing agency.  Responses will be posted when they are received.

Congress intended wilderness to be free of human impacts but, only a few miles from a trailhead, a helicopter flies out fire tools.
